Arts & Culture Vibrant Storefronts: deadline extended to Sept. 13
The program is open to MN residents, with a preference for Minneapolis residents. The first round of applications will be accepted through Sept. 13. Applicants from all disciplines including visual, performing, literary, media, culinary, digital and public arts, design, craft and non-traditional mediums are encouraged to apply. Comment on FAA Flight Operation Procedures: deadline Sept. 15
After Minneapolis and surrounding communities were successful in delaying the implementation of new performance-based navigation techniques (RNAV) in 2012, the FAA is proceeding with implementation of these operations now. The City has communicated the needs to prevent concentration of noise and to avoid shifting noise, with the ultimate goal to disperse noise and flight operations. Just as the City provided feedback to the FAA, you are encouraged each of you to provide your own feedback.
Traffic Calming Applications: Deadline extended to Sept. 15
Request a traffic calming treatment for streets in your neighborhood for 2025 by submitting a traffic calming application. Some examples of those treatments are speed humps, curb extensions, traffic circles and median islands. Request traffic calming in your area by filling out the online, or if you need help, you can call Minneapolis311. If you can’t use the online application, you can print it and email it, or mail it.
Nicollet Mall Transit Changes Survey & Engagement: Open House Sept. 24
The City and and Metro Transit are considering some changes to the public uses of Nicollet Mall. The goal of this work is to make transit as good or better than transit on Nicollet Mall today. The project webpage is live and includes a new survey opportunity. Staff have been doing some pop-up engagements, talking with community members downtown and more will be scheduled, including an Open House on Sept. 24, 4–6pm at the Minneapolis Central Library (Doty Board Rm. 300 Nicollet Mall).
Hazardous Waste Collection: Sept. 20–21, Hennepin Co. Public Works Orono Shop
Hennepin Co. is holding community collection events in 2024 to give residents more convenient, local disposal options for unwanted garden and household hazardous wastes. Learn more.
Imagine 2050: Public Hearing Sept. 25 & Public Comment till Oct. 7
The Metropolitan Council is receiving public comment on the Draft Imagine 2050 from Aug. 15 to Oct. 7, 2024. The Council will host a public hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. in the Met Council Chambers (390 Robert St N, St. Paul).
City Budget Workshop: Thursday, Sept. 26
With participation by the City’s Budget Director and the Chairs of our City Council’s Budget Committee, Council Vice President Chughtai, Council Member Koski, and Council Member Cashman, learn more about how the City’s budget works and work in teams to identify Ward priorities and trade-offs.
