Community Safety Update
Thank you to the 150+ neighbors who joined in last Thursday's safety meeting—those who missed it can listen here. Special thanks to our guests, Ward 10 Council Member Aisha Chughtai, and the MPD 5th Precinct's Insp. Katie Blackwell and Lt. Mike Frye. In processing the discussion we had, I was reminded of this quote from Imania Margria:
We shouldn't live in a world where we live in constant terror.
We need less dying and more living.
We need less destroying and more building.
We need less hate and more love.
These sentiments were shared a number of times throughout our discussion. As we all begin the work of actively caring for and protecting our community and neighbors in times ahead, I hope that we choose to do so with much love and intention.
A mentor once told me that the greatest change happens in moments of curiosity. So I am reminded to stay curious in the journey ahead of us, with a passion to learn and do better, together. The Neighborhood Association board will be with you every step of the way, and we look forward to learning alongside each of you about ways we can address this moment—and in doing so, cultivate a safer, more vibrant community where we continue to live, love and thrive.
Thank you all for your continued efforts and engagement. Without you, East Bde Maka Ska would be merely a set of lots and blocks in title (spoken like a true realtor, I know). It's true. It's each of you that make it a community—and one that I am so proud to call home. See you out there, neighbors!
