Outgoing President’s Note

Thanks to everyone who came out to the annual meeting! I was very happy that the turnout was so substantial and we were able to find committed applicants for our Board. We welcome Tim Fontaine as a new Board Member, and re-welcome Joshua Christianson and Harry Savage, who are returning to the Board after past terms.

At November’s Board Meeting, we elected Board Members Thang Holt as President, Luke Varien as Vice President, and Joshua Christianson as Secretary. These officers will be committed to and active in fulfilling the goals of the Board. The Board intends to move $25K of funds allocated to a NRP revolving loan program that's been repaid to a general fund. This will allow the Board, with direction from the neighborhood, to reallocate these funds to new NRP activities. Questions can be directed here.

The past year as your President, and throughout my two-year term on the Board, has been eventful and always interesting. I believe that we made progress and had success in our committees, in our efforts to expand our engagement with the neighborhood, and in attracting neighbors to serve on the Board. While we had some difficult months after our excellent Coordinator, Andrew Degerstrom, left to take a new job, we were very fortunate to hire our new Coordinator, Cuyler Dinegan, who will be a tremendous asset.

I believe that neighborhood associations are an important part of the City, and play a crucial role in the strength of neighborhoods. Our neighborhood has always had an active and engaged Board, and broad participation of the neighborhood. I have been honored to be able to serve and represent the neighborhood.

After 35 years in the neighborhood, my wife and I have decided to downsize and move out of the area. Although I am sad to leave this place, that I do love, I am excited about new opportunities. I will miss the area, the neighbors, and the East Bde Maka Ska Neighborhood Association. Thanks for the opportunity to be involved with such a strong and engaged neighborhood!
