home security program

The goal of the East Bde Maka Ska Home Security Program is to improve safety and prevent crimes by projecting an image of a safe and proactive community in the East Bde Maka Ska neighborhood.

Program Guidelines

  1. Eligible Applicants: All residential properties, owner-occupied or rented, in the East Bde Maka Ska neighborhood.

  2. Subsidy Amount: East Bde Maka Ska NRP funds will subsidize (with rebates) amounts up to a maximum of $250 per household (one-time subsidy). For multi-unit residential properties with four or more units, the maximum subsidy is $1,000. The recipient must pay any project cost in excess of that amount. Subsidy cannot exceed your total cost. Subsidy is not guaranteed and is subject to available funds and review of submission.

  3. Eligible Home Security Projects:

    • Outdoor security lighting (flood lights, motion detectors)

    • Security camera

    • Dead bolt locks

    • Window pinning

    • Light timers

    • Purchase and installation of home security systems (does not include monthly monitoring service)

    • Electrical work related to eligible home security projects

How does the program work?

  1. Home security work can be completed by a licensed contractor (to ensure that your contractor is licensed, please contact the Minneapolis City License Department at 612-673-2080) and/or on a do-it-yourself basis. You may have to meet City permit requirements for your project. Call 311 and they will direct you to the correct source to determine whether your project requires a permit.

  2. Subsidies are awarded on a fist-some, first-served basis as funds are available.

  3. Complete the application below. A Google account is required.

  4. The subsidy check will be mailed to you within 8 weeks.

If you are having difficulty with the online application, please contact info@eastbdemakaska.org.
