Walk the neighborhood as a community! The goal of these walks is to build bonds and send a strong signal that this community is working together to keep itself taken care of and safe. Any volunteers will receive a free Community Safety Shirt and knit cap.
With this inaugural walk we will be joining the Minneapolis Safety Walk network, and as such for our first outing we will be joined by Safety Walkers from Dinky Town, North Loop, Mill District, Loring Park, Windom, Thomas Beach, Lowry Hill, and East Isles.
We are also coordinating with the Minneapolis 5th Precinct to have an officer walk with us to help identify areas of our neighborhood that could be strengthened from a safety perspective, as well as give tips for staying safe in general. We will also be cleaning litter as we walk.
Statistically over time crime does tend to fall in neighborhoods with this practice, though this will not have an immediate impact on crime. There is no silver bullet to defeating the challenges our community faces, so every little bit we can do helps! If you are interested or have questions about the Safety Walks, feel free to reach out to David Ratner.
