Meeting Agenda

I.  Call meeting to order. Get everybody on the line.

II. First call to action. Everybody steps out on their front porch and claps, bangs pans, whistles loudly in recognition of all of the health workers and service providers.

III. Brief update on Livability business.

  • Safety

  • Development

IV.  Brainstorming ideas and actions related to coronavirus (1 hour)

  • Goal - community communication and safety net

    • How can we bridge the separation created by the social distancing?

    • What specific actions can we take to reach out to neighbors in this time of super-isolation to

      1. Make us all feel a little less alone

        1. Make us little more confident that there are people around us who care

        2. Know there are folks we can call or reach out to in a time of need.

  • Idea seeds

    • Celebrate all the service people who provide us everything from health care to groceries to dinner delivery everyday at some risk to themselves. At 7:00 PM every night people in our neighborhood go to their front step applauding, banging pots and pans whatever in recognition of those who are at risk and those who are serving them. Make it a community activity. They are already doing this in downtown and in Europe.

    • Community Ripples.  Each person reaches out to 2 neighbors to see how they are doing and encourage them to do the same with their neighbors. "Go viral against the virus"

    • Virtual Happy Hours. Introduces folks to the use of technology to connect with neighbors. Coupled with the ripple to encourage broader participation. Once the seed of how to do this is planted encourage folks to use technology to create enjoyable contact situations with neighbors, relatives, friends.

    • Conduct a simple class on creating and setting up a Zoom call. What you need, how to invite, how to make it work.

    • Set up a simple posting network for celebrating little successes. Set up a meeting with my kids, Set up a meeting with my neighbors.

    • There will be people of our neighborhood who get sick.  What can we offer them?

    • Remote tutorial Q&A.  My (substitute here as appropriate) high school sophomore/ 8th grader/ HS senior....) has asked me a question about Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry/Geography/Geology/Philosophy... that I can't understand much less answer.  Is there someone I reach out to for help?

    • As we "reopen" our communities there will very likely be requirements enacted for social distancing. Masks are already required in New York and many other cities. How can we insure everyone in ECCO has access to these required tools.

  • Discuss ideas flesh out seeds. Identify actions.

  • As a function of our actions, determine if an application is merited to the recent City of Minneapolis proposed $100k fund. (Very short window for applications by April 24. A portion of the description of the program is appended below along with a link to the city site which full outlines it.)
